…..oh I do like to be beside the sea – a sojourn in the port of Goole

OK so strictly speaking Goole isn’t exactly by the sea but it is a port and it does lead to the Humber Estuary.

It was odd, and a touch scary, to be completely dwarfed by the locals.

When you’re moored up, the water turbulence warns you 5 or 10  minutes in advance of a barge like this actually putting in an appearance.

Gordon was in his element with loads of working boats to ogle at and a Waterways Museum to wander around. Another brilliant place to visit – all the more so because I was expecting a rather dull run down port with nothing much to see.

While in Goole we also managed to get to the actual seaside – a day trip by train to Bridlington – more boats (including a pirate tripper boat) for Gordon to admire, along with funfairs, amusement arcades and jam packed beaches – didn’t spot any kiss me quick hats though!

Onwards now to Selby, York and Ripon.
