Last Thursday we managed to cut the umbilical cord and head out again into the wide blue yonder. It was a touch chilly and we had to hammer at the ice with the barge pole to clear a path through the marina.
We’ve had an incredible winter with all the trips we’ve taken (did I mention we’ve been to Norway?) but it’s still a joy to start travelling again.
The sculpture dragon oversaw our departure along with Ray and Diane from nb Ferndale who worked the first (and indeed only) lock for us.
We didn’t get very far, stopping in Stone and meeting a fair few other boaters in Wetherspoons for curry night. Thirteen of us sat down to dinner but it certainly didn’t feel like an unlucky number.
Ray and Diane headed off up the Trent & Mersey towards Stoke today but we’re staying put in Stone until Sunday to celebrate our wedding anniversary (11th I think) in the Thai Restaurant here. Hopefully we’ll catch up with them again tomorrow or Monday as, if current plans hold, we’re going to be going up towards Manchester with them and sharing the locks on the dreaded Ashton Canal. Banjo’ll see off any vandals I reckon – specially in his Dennis the Menace doggy jacket!
