After celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary with a Thai meal in Stone we set off towards Barlaston bumping into Carol and Barry on Winton’s Folly heading the other way.
We met up again with Ray and Diane in the Plume of Feathers and joined them for an after dinner drinky – it was St Patrick’s Day so it would have been rude not to. Diane presented us with these hats on the proviso that next St Paddy’s Day we wear them while cruising and then pass them on to some other hapless boater.
Thus are boating traditions born – I wonder how long this one’ll last?
On an incredibly beautiful Monday we headed off past Barlaston Hall to Downs Banks for a walk.
We’ve moored there several times but never bothered to explore the area farther than the Wedgewood factory. We were heading for the Millenium viewpoint but missed the mark and climbed the wrong hill – never mind the view was still good
and there was a bench for a picnic.
We’re off today along with Ray and Diane to go through the Harecastle tunnel and onto the Macclesfield Canal. Now that we’re getting away from our normal winter haunts it’s starting to feel like we’ve really begun our spring cruise – despite the fact that snow is forecast and it’s bloody freezing.
