Last night Gordon and I went for a walk along the Mersey at sunset just as this cruise ship was leaving – lovely sight. She was leaving and making room for the Queen Mary II to arrive later that evening. With Cath and Martin from nb Moriarty and other boaters we decided to hang about and watch her coming in. Little did we realise that we’d end up helping her dock! As we hung around (during a rather sharp thunderstorm) we were approached by the Mooring Superintendent who was putting up a banner. He wondered if we would be willing to shine a torch on the banner as the ship approached to show the pilot where to line up the bridge. Apparently when the boat arrives in daylight the banner is clearly visible but at night it needs to be lit.
Armed with a trusty torch he’d given us Jenny from nb Varekai and I did our duty!
